Burlingame Fresh Market remains open
Regarding Coronavirus/COVID-19, the health and wellness of the markets, farmers and community are of the utmost importance.
The Burlingame/SFO Chamber of Commerce is taking precautionary measures and has implemented policies that mitigate cross contamination risks. The Burlingame Fresh Market REMAINS OPEN (as an Essential Business per San Mateo County order, Dial 211 for information and interpretation).
We remind you of the benefits of shopping for nutrient dense produce from small family farms:
• Fresh produce rich with vitamins & nutrients essential to maintaining a healthy immune system
• Low risk, open air environment allows for social spacing of 6ft. Outdoor spaces are less hospitable to viruses.
• Sunlight provides a powerful, natural disinfectant and exposure to vitamin D
• Food directly traveling from the farm is handled at a much lower rate than in the commercial system. The distance our food travels is the shortest available anywhere, diminishing the risk of spreading a virus into, or out of, the immediate region.
We are not aware of any reports at this time of human illnesses that suggest COVID-19 can be transmitted by food or food packaging. However, it is always important to follow good hygiene practices (i.e., wash hands and surfaces often, separate raw meat from other foods, cook to the right temperature, and refrigerate foods promptly) when handling or preparing foods.
Closing our market would only hurt the local economy of Northern California foodsheds.
As we continue to maintain our health through the power of natural foods, we encourage and thank those who support our local family farms & businesses.
